Turnitin - Setting Up in Canvas
Turnitin is available as a feature in the Assignments tool within WorldClassRoom (Canvas). Follow the steps below to enable Turnitin on an assignment.
- In WorldClassRoom, navigate to the Assignments via the Course Navigation and select an assignment for which you would like to enable Turnitin or create a new one.
- Click on "Edit" to edit the assignment if it has already been created.
- If this will be a new assignment, be sure to add a descriptive name and add details in the description area.
- Scroll down to the area called "Submission Type" and select "Online" from the drop-down menu.
- A new box of choices will appear. Choose File Uploads from these choices.
- After choosing File Uploads, a new section called Plagiarism Review will appear. In this box, you should choose Turnitin-CanvasPF.
- Customize the Turnitin Settings as desired.
In the Optional Settings area, instructors can:
- Decide whether the document should be added to the Turnitin Standard Paper Repository
- If the instructor prefers to allow multiple submissions and drafts, it may be advisable to not add files to the repository, as that can make a student’s paper match itself. For most other situations, adding the file to the repository is recommended to develop the database.
- Choose where to compare the submission (all three sources recommended
- Choose what, if anything, to exclude from the originality report
- Save these settings to be used in future assignments.
As the instructor, you can also choose when the student sees the Originality Report. We recommend Immediately so they can analyze the feedback and correct as necessary.
After setting the Turnitin options, continue creating the assignment as desired with Group or Peer Review, if desired and added Due Dates.
Be sure to click Save (or Save and Publish) when done.
Student papers submitted to Assignments using the Turnitin Plagiarism Framework are viewed and graded using Canvas's SpeedGrader and Gradebook tools, as usual.
