Getting Started with Kaltura
Webster is pleased to offer Kaltura as our new enterprise-level, cloud-based media management platform that can be used for storing, publishing, and streaming videos. Kaltura in Canvas enables instructors to view, record, upload, publish, search, and share videos directly from a Canvas course.
Kaltura provides three main tools to upload, share, and embed media in a Canvas course:
-
My Media is a searchable repository that allows for uploading, creating, viewing, and managing video content. This area is YOURS and cannot be accessed by students. Any class that you have access to will have the same video content so the videos are available to you across all of your courses. All students enrolled in the course will also have access to their own My Media page in the course navigation menu.
-
Media Gallery is a searchable gallery of media content that is unique to an individual course. The Media Gallery provides a central location for instructors to make content available to students.
My Media and Media Gallery can be found in the course navigation in your Canvas course.
-
Embed Kaltura Media Tool is available in the Canvas Rich Content Editor (RCE) to enable embedding content from My Media. The Embed Kaltura Media tool is available wherever you see the Canvas RCE, making it easy to embed content on Canvas pages, in discussion forums, and announcements.
Note: Any media created in a Master course that is intended for use in all future sections should be embedded within the content (including assignments, discussions, etc.) so that it will be available in all future sections.
